March 2017

Week beginning 27th March

We had a lovely last week at school learning about Easter and why we celebrate Easter. We read the Easter story, acted it out and wrote about it, too.

We made some Easter cards, thinking carefully about our designs ourselves. They looked fantastic!

We made some delicious Easter Nests!
On Friday, the Easter Bunny visited and left us some eggs to hunt for!
Here are some more photos from our week...

Next half term, we will be learning all about mini-beasts. During the first week back we will be finding out about spiders. If you have any books at home related to this topic it would be fantastic for the children to bring them in to share with their class.

Well done, children, for an amazing Spring Term and thank you, parents, for your ongoing support. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break!

Week Beginning March 19th

We have been busy this week getting ready for our Mothers Day surprise!

We listened to a story "My Mum is Great" and we thought and wrote about our great Mums.

We hope you were impressed with the fab writing!

Thank you for all of your support for comic relief.

We had lots of red nose day fun!

We made red collage pictures, red water play, red painting and we had fun decorating red nose biscuits.

Thank you to everyone that came to buy one.

Week beginning 13th March

We have been busy exploring, investigating and experimenting during our Science Week!

On Monday, Little Miss Somersault said 'people with the longest legs can jump the furthest'. We investigated if she was right by measuring our legs and then measuring our jumps. We found out that people with the longest legs don't always jump the furthest!
On Tuesday, we made jelly. We had to mix the jelly powder into the water until it dissolved. In the fridge, it set from a liquid into a solid. It tasted delicious! We also made a graph to show our favourite flavours.
We had lots of fun with our Skittles experiment. We placed Skittles in a circle and then added warm water. It was so colourful!
On Thursday, our challenge was to get the light bulb to light up!

We enjoyed making potions, mixing different liquids and powders together.

(Thank you for all the bottles!)

Outside we have been playing and exploring with the water and piping.

We have been very busy scientists!

Mums - don't forget our special Mother's Day morning on Thursday 23rd March at 9am in the hall. We really hope you can make it! smiley

On Friday, after school, we will be having a biscuit sale in the Foundation outside area. If you would like to make a donation for a biscuit decorated by the children, the money will go towards the Red Nose Day appeal.

Next week, we will be introducing subtraction as well as continuing our learning about addition.

Here are some ideas to try if you would like to enhance your child's learning at home:

  • Count teddies / socks / cars / Lego (anything!); can your child add two groups of items and tell you the total (up to 20)? Can they work out subtraction problems by taking away items and counting what is left behind?
  • Play 'Number Jump' on BusyThings.
  • Play 'Miner Birds' on BusyThings

Have a lovely weekend! See you on Monday!
