Welcome to our Year 4 blog!
We will use this page to let you know about some of the exciting things that we have been doing!
Thank you so much for joining us for the tea and toast morning today! We all had a wonderful time and we hope you did too. The children have worked so hard with this unit of work and we are so incredibly proud of them.
Here are a few pictures:
We are so excited to get start the summer term and we can't wait to get stuck into all of our new topics!
Today we had a treasure hunt to kick start our new learning challenge topic which focuses on States of Matter! It was a really fun way to learn about how to identify solids, liquids and gases, have a look at some of the pictures below
What a wonderful way to finish our Victorian topic! Everybody had a brilliant time at Southwell Workhouse and we all learnt even more about the lives of poor Victorian children as Year 4 got into character and stepped back in time to explore life at the workhouse!
Our fabulous trip included a tour of some of the relevant areas of the workhouse, a trip to the school room, a chance to investigate some Victorian artifacts and the opportunity to play with some Victorian toys. It truly was a fabulous day and, as usual, Year 4 were a credit to our school. As teachers, we are all very proud of each and every one of them and glad that they all had such a fantastic day!
Have a look at some of our photos below!
Year 4 had been fascinated to learn more about the lives of Victorian children during their Learning Challenge work this term. So, with the help of some very well-known songs, Classes 4H and 4TP shared their learning with parents and with the whole school - taking the audience down coal mines, into factories and workhouses and into the homes of wealthy folk and farmers.
The children all agreed that they were very fortunate to experience childhood now as opposed to 150 years ago - to be able to attend school and to enjoy their leisure time instead of being sent to work in horrific conditions or to be mistreated by cruel grown-ups. They even considered whether they could show their appreciation by doing a little more to help around the house...
Well done Year 4!
Wow, what a fantastic debate Year 4 presented on Tuesday 13th December!
If you missed the debate, we are sure you'll be happy to hear that the parents voted to keep Hathersage as a village!
Here are a couple of the 'green screen' videos that we filmed in throughout the topic:
We are very excited to begin our new topic which is titled: Hustle and Bustle Vs Peaceful and Tranquil.
Throughout the topic, we will compare the differences between cities and villages, particularly focusing on Nottingham and Hathersage!
We are really excited about going to Hathersage, we will put some pictures on here when we return from the trip.
