This week in Foundation, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We enjoyed learning about the story of the Zodiac and finding things out about China.

Here are some photos of our Finger Gym. We made fans, used tweezers to decorate a dragon’s face, used chopsticks to pick up noodles, threaded beads to make the dragon’s fire and made Zodiac animal stick puppets.

Some children worked together as a fantastic team to make a wonderfully creative dragon! I’m sure you will agree that it looks absolutely amazing!

(Thank you, parents, for the all boxes!)

After watching a video, we enjoyed having a go at dragon and lion dancing to some Chinese festival music…

We made some beautiful cherry blossom pictures.

We wrote some invitations and had our own Chinese New Year party. We dressed in red which we know is a lucky colour in Chinese culture. We enjoyed tasting some noodles and prawn crackers. We danced like dragons and lions to the music. We even got to take a fortune cookie home (thank you Alexander’s Mummy!).

In Maths, we learnt about ordinal number. Can your child remember the language of ordinal number (first, second, third, etc.) and use it in the correct context? In your child’s home learning journal, you will find an activity linked to ordinal numbers.

We have sent home PE kits to be washed over the half-term. Please bring kits back by Wednesday, ensuring that all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you.

When we return to school after the break, we will be basing our learning around Alice in Wonderland which links to our whole-school World Book Day theme. On Thursday, children are invited to wear fancy dress to school linked to the theme of Alice in Wonderland.

We hope you have a wonderful week off! Enjoy! 🙂
